Concept & Description:

Client Brief

The competition seeked to create a museum dedicated to the study and celebration of the Saraswati River at the heritage Udai Singh Haveli at Pehowa, Haryana.

Project Background

Museum design with architectural conservation and historical research.

Primary Concept

The study focused on creating a strong narrative, with the emphasis on the cultural importance of Pehowa and Kurukshetra vis-à-vis the Saraswati River and its continuance in the collective memory of the local communities.

Material/Palette

The existing 19th century haveli, built by Raja Udai Singh of Kaithal, was proposed to be restored to its original glory. The material palette consisted of sandstone, lime plaster, granite and white marble.

USP

Primary and secondary research undertaken related to the historical descriptions, legends and traditions related to the Saraswati River.
